Weight Loss Hypnosis: Can You Actually
Lose Weight With Hypnosis?
If you've struggled with yo-yo dieting and you're looking for a different
approach to the whole weight issue, you may have come across references to weight loss
hypnosis. But the big question is: can hypnosis actually influence your weight or is it
simply a case of wishful thinking?
We've been exposed to hypnosis for many years thanks to a couple of family members who practice in
that field. We expressed the usual skepticism when we were first introduced to it, but one incident
changed my attitude and opened me up to the power of the mind-body connection.
Self Hypnosis and Allergies
At one stage in my life I worked as a bookkeeper, a job I loathed with a passion. I had started
working for a large electronics company, but after several months on the job, I developed an
allergic reaction to the air conditioning in the office. My nose ran, my sinuses became blocked,
and I'd suffer through a miserable day at the computer with a box of tissues by my side. The
attacks occurred about once a week, and some days my symptoms were so bad my boss would send me
home. It occurred to me that my dislike of the job may have something to do with my developing the
allergy, but as I needed the money at the time, I felt I had no choice but to keep the job.
Eight months later I was talking to my cousin about the situation when she suggested self-hypnosis.
At first I argued with her. For me, it was a simple case of cause and effect: I sit under the vent,
the cold air hits my skin, I start to sneeze and my sinuses react. How could hypnosis influence
that?
She calmly suggested that I give it a try and prepared a self-hypnosis script for me. I took it
home and read it into a tape recorder that night. I played once and put it aside. It was pleasant
enough sitting there and doing the relaxation bit so I didn't feel I had wasted my time. But I
wasn't motivated enough to play it again.
Weeks went by before I realized that I hadn't had a sinus attack in a while. In fact, I didn't have
one for another six months. The day my sinuses blocked up again I went home and searched for the
tape. I found it still sitting in the machine and played it once again. I haven't had a sinus
attack in the 15 years since, not from air conditioning, or from any of the other factors that used
to set my nose running as a child.
If self-hypnosis can control how your brain processes an allergic-response signal from a trigger
like air conditioning, why shouldn't it control how your brain responds to both the emotional
triggers for overeating and the biochemical processing of food itself? Every bodily function is
controlled by your brain, and hypnosis is direct communication with the deepest parts of your
brain-mind.
If I hadn't taken those couple of hours to experiment with my amateurish homemade tape, I might
still be keeping the tissue companies in business with my sinus attacks. Now perhaps weight loss
hypnosis isn't just a 'one off' situation like mine, but playing a recording every night for a
month or two is a small price to pay for a potentially low cost solution to your weight
problem.
We recently came across a web site that offers all kinds of hypnosis MP3s. They offer over 70
recordings on the subject of Health, with 13 specifically on the topic of weight loss hypnosis.
Plus they offer visitors a free five-part hypnosis course.
